Meet the boys: Menchi

Ok time to introduce the boys, non-dog people look at me funny (I am used to that by now) when I call them my boys but they are my four legged kids and they are all male hence my boys.
Menchi, I know it is a weird name, but let me explain  how he got his name, it is not a glamorous or cute story but when we got him my brother and I was very into a Japanese anime program which I must admit I cannot remember the name of now, but in any case one of the characters was a dog with that name on the program and I think in Japanese it meant meatballs or mincemeat.I heard afterwards in German Menchi means little human and that actually fits him quite well. Menchi is the eldest of the three and he is about eight years old, despite being the smallest of the three he is no less of a force to be reckoned with, being a Fox terrier and all, if the other dogs are looking for trouble with him. In human terms if I can truly anthropomorphize now, he would be like the shy kid not a push over but would rather be in the background whenever there are a lot of people around, he usually prefers staying behind my legs or move away quietly. He is also the dog that embarrasses me the most; truly I think he goes out of his way to embarrass me!(come to think of it, it may have something to with payback because of his name), whenever we go for a walk he would be going along casually until we walk past a house where there are people in the garden or driveway and then he would suddenly squat right there in front of their driveway in full view of every one! I usually just stand there red faced waiting and with baggy in the hand, after I got Shadow I would use poor old Shadow to block the view, he didn’t seem happy about it but hey it’s a team effort to keep our pride intact :D
He also has this habit of whenever we are socializing with a big group of dogs he would choose another dog and zoom in on that poor dog and hump it, doesn’t matter if the dog tries to run away he would just chase until he gets to them and start humping, vigorously I might add to the horror of the other pets owner, understandably! So me all embarrassed just apologize and put him back on lead with a “so sorry I don’t know what got into him, hehe”, a nervous little laugh.

But that does not even come close to our short but very humiliating agility career! That is a whole article on its own.

Despite all the embarrassing moments he is my baby, I don’t know if it is because he is the smallest or because he has such a soft and sensitive side to him, he also has a true terrier temperament running off in the garden chasing imaginary prey, or as I decided maybe I have fairies in my garden because I cannot for the life of me see what he is chasing and apart from the odd mouse he never catches anything, so it must be fairies (that’s my story and I am sticking to it), he also has the selective hearing trick down to a tee! True terrier. He used to be very aggressive toward other dogs but after he was neutered he calmed right down and I often get complements from people stating that I have a very calm Fox terrier and I just have to smile. Well that is my Menchi in a nutshell, if I could use one word to describe him it would be chancer, never missing an opportunity to get a treat, eat the cats food or sneaking a nap on my bed.
Menchi looking as cute as ever!
